VOvember 5th: the prompt “spark” led me of all places to a news-of-the-day letter from 1782 written by my own 7th great grandfather, John Hanson (first president of the Continental Congress), to his friend Capt. Philip Thomas — both very active in the campaign for an independent United States of America. Here’s a bit from the start, middle, and end of the letter. The whole letter is a really interesting update on international war efforts, the struggle for recognition as an independent nation, and news from home (including what seems to be musings on the selling of a slave — definitely uncomfortable to read especially in the context of one’s own [albeit long-ago] family history). #VOvember #VOvember2021

VOvember Day 4: losing the SciFi, keeping the ’50s, and going a bit industrial. 🙂 Here’s the opening of the 1950 “50 Wonderful Ways to use Sour Cream from Appetizers to Desserts; Recipes from the Test Kitchen of the American Dairy Association” in the style (ish) of the time. The voice/approach just came on as I read through the text and so I went with it. #VOvember #VOvember2021

Today’s VOvember bit is more audiobook (yay!) and more 50s SciFi (yay!). The prompt “patch” led me to a short story by the same name written by William Shedenhelm in the fall 1950 issue of Planet Stories. I love this story genre so much but I promise (fingers crossed behind my back) to not do a whole month of it. #VOvember #VOvember2021
